Accommodation
The NASUWT is the largest UK-wide teachers’ union. Monteith Scott were asked to assist with improving the appearance of the facilities located at their Hillscourt Conference Centre in Rednal.
The landscaped, mature site has two buildings that provide overnight accommodation for delegates attending conferences at the Birmingham HQ. As the conferences are held during the working week, the accommodation has increasingly become available at weekends for private functions such as wedding receptions. The refurbishment scope included the remodelling of some of the smaller single bedrooms to make more flexible family space to accommodate this demand.
The project was budget driven. For example, in the older Victorian property the existing wall coverings were retained, as were lighting locations.
New wall panels were introduced to take new bedside lighting, which gave us the opportunity to introduce a contemporary element to the space that works whatever the bedroom layout, and also visually connects the older property with the newer stand alone bedroom block.
