Background

Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council (HBBC) in Leicestershire required the refurbishment of its Listed offices.

With 28,000 sq ft spanning four floors, the space needed to be flexible as it would comprise offices, meeting rooms, breakout areas, a council chamber/conference/function suite, accommodation for the local college, plus studio spaces and serviced offices!

In transforming the offices, we provided the following services: internal layouts, finishes, furniture and fixtures.

Our Solution

HBBC, which developed the site, is to be applauded for embracing the building, and staying true to its essence.

The spaces created are pure, taking full advantage of the height, the magnificent windows, stairs, loading doors and exposed brick and wood.

Where we have had to add elements, such as tea points, these have been designed as sculptural inserted elements, with bright colour and contrasting textures.

Results

To the complete satisfaction of both HBBC and English Heritage, the resultant scheme demonstrates a complete respect for the building, whilst still providing eminently flexible space.

Now suitable for modern use, the accommodation retains the essence of the building as a glorious, light and very uplifting space.
